Lemuel Pembrook “Brook” Carpenter Jr., 77,  passed away on June 10, 2026 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington D.C. He was born on March 11, 1949 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington D.C. to Betty Jean and Lemuel Pembrook Carpenter. He lived and worked in Charles County, Maryland for most of his life.    

Lemuel is survived by his wife, Janet Carpenter, daughter Melissa Carpenter, son Lemuel Carpenter, daughter in law Cecelia Carpenter, granddaughter Emilia Pembrook Carpenter, sisters Mary Ann and Deborah (Billy), brothers Glenn (Karen) and Matthew (Maria), along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Lemuel, his sister Michelle Morris and his brother Mark Carpenter. 

Lemuel and Janet just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He was a proud University of Maryland-College Park Alumni and member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed Ravens football, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. In the last months he has really enjoyed making funny faces and silly sounds with his granddaughter, Emilia. 

Lemuel worked for over 40 years for the Charles County Government spending much of that time working in the Department of Community Services-Housing Department and as a Development Services Supervisor for the Department of Community Services.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 4 PM until 6 PM with prayers at 5:30 PM.

The funeral will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Bryantown Catholic Church in Bryantown, MD; the interment will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Indian Head, MD, followed by a repast at the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department in Bryans Road, MD.
