Kenneth 'UNK' Montgomery Obituary

Kenneth “UNK” Montgomery, 43, beloved son of Bunny Powell; Born on October 16, 1980, on Naval Air Station Patuxent River in St Mary’s County.  Kenny ironically worked, up until his untimely death on March 15, 2024, for Liberty Military Housing also at Naval Air Station-Patuxent River.

Kenny attended and graduated Gwynn Park High School in 1998.

There wasn’t a pedal bike, motorcycle, machine or motor Unk couldn’t fix.  He was the master of any grill/smoker or skillet.  With a newfound love of “baking”.  He loved every weekend spent beside the Mancation Crew. Where memories of a lifetime were created with great men, accompanied by his love of the water, fishing and fellowship. This love began as a child on the same creek with his Pop, who taught him how to turn a wrench at an early age. A great day in the life of Kenny would begin with him shining up his beloved whip Big Shirley, followed by Sunday dinner with his family, catching his Dallas Cowboys while eating mint chocolate chip ice cream out of his “dog bowl”.

However, nothing brought him more joy than his nieces and nephew. He was in his glory watching Michalyn on the soccer field for over a decade. He was her biggest fan on the sidelines or while sitting in a river with a rod and her, or simply writing her one of his hundreds of daily notes. He was at his best on many a Christmas morning, dressed as Santa so Kennedy still would believe and watch Santa deliver her presents, or while watching her on stage whether cheer, choir or band. He loved scaring Bud’s friends on Halloween on the trails behind her house. It was his highest honor to help raise Ryan into the man he is today. From football/baseball/softball bleachers to Saturday morning auto-shop classes.

Kenny is survived by his mother, Bunny Powell; brother, Clifford G. Montgomery III (Karen); sisters, Christi L. Montgomery and Cristi Keller Mason; stepsiblings, Frankie Rose (Lauren) and Dina Rose.  Nieces, Michalyn “ShortStack” Atkinson; Kennedy “Shorty Gordy” Montgomery; nephew, Ryan “ShortRock” Mason.  Best Bud, Greg Kleinschmidt Jr.  Also survived by, “Not his Cat”, Nubs.

Kenny was preceded in death by his Father, Clifford G. Montgomery, Jr. and Grandfather Kenny “PKP” Powell.

Pallbearers are Ralph MacDonald, Shawn “Bucky” MacDonald, Ryan "ShortRock" Mason, David “Chief” Mason, Buster Mason, Gregory Kleinschmidt III and Mark W. Merchant Jr.
