Charles Henry Sandy, (November 29, 1953- April 2, 2024) known to most as Henry, passed suddenly in his sleep Tuesday morning.
Henry was many things to many people, but to his family he was a beloved and loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and PaPa. Nothing was more important to him than his family, but his precious grandchildren put the daily sparkle in his eyes.
He worked hard over the years to provide for his family, leading by example and instilling good morals and work ethics in his children. Always pushing them to be what he knew they were capable of and always wanting the best for them. Never more than a phone call away, Henry was there for his family. Taking his mother to church or on trips south to visit family, instantly jumping in the truck to deliver a can of gasoline on the side of the road to a sibling, niece or nephew, or towing a vehicle out of the occasional ditch or swamp in the middle of the night, he was the road crew to the rescue.
His children are especially grateful for the many hours he dedicated to helping repair their "new homes", creating memories they will cherish. Henry was a true renaissance man. Possessing a vast wealth of knowledge about endless topics. He was proud of his service in the Navy, loved to read about everything and was always learning something new. His life experiences were invaluable to his employment with the Charles County Government. He was constantly sharing his wisdom with his co-workers, sometimes grumping while imparting that wisdom.
Henry never met a stranger and built friendships with many along the way. He loved sharing life lessons and stories with those he interacted with, bragging about his grand babies, WaWa coffee and most recently looking forward to his upcoming and well earned retirement. He enjoyed all things in nature, the mountains, little log cabins, and swimming in the creeks. He loved riding his motorcycle, especially along the winding mountain roads with the wind blowing through his beard. He has touched many lives in the span of his time on this earth, and will be missed beyond measure. ~ May he forever ride with a smile on his face and the wind in his beard.
Henry was proceeded in death by his parents, James Edward, Mary L. (Sandy) Owen; stepfather, Clifton Owen; brothers Robert Elmer and John Edward; brother-in-law Barney Taylor and nephew, Michael Sandy.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Teresa; children, Heather Salamon (Mike) and James Patrick (Ariana); grandchildren, Skylar, Keiran, Everett, Jasper, Finnick; siblings Steve (Mary) and Juanita; nieces and nephews, John, Chris, Amy, Matthew, Jeff, Jenny, David and Angela; many great nieces and nephews, but he shared a special bond with Abigale and Travis.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM.
